Just joined nuMonday and opened my Feltissimo shop.

Well with one thing and another, this year so far has been rather traumatic. Mum went down hill rapidly since Christmas with lots of falls, numerous A&E admissions and the final stages of vascular dementia. She had to be moved from her care home to a nursing home, it was heartbreaking. My mother died in April and as the only child and executor of her will I've had a lot to sort out. Everything has now been sorted out and I've been able to get myself together by starting to felt again.

I'm going to try to spend more time adding more items to nuMONDAY. I've been hanging on to most of my felt work because I had visions of standing at craft fairs in the future. Whether that willl happen I don't know but in the meantime I need some creations on so that other people can enjoy them.

I will be adding more items during the next week.
The following image is of a felted and embroidered brooch. It is from a garden inspired collection.

I will be posting regularly now so do pop by and perhaps comment s I wil love to make this blog more open. Till next time ......... Sandie

More felted wearable art in Feltissimo shop today.

It has been quite a while since I wrote anything on here and I do apologise.
There has been so many things happening. Firstly I was preparing all of the food for our large 25th wedding anniversary party. Ever since we have been married my husband has been the cook in our house. He has been a star as it has allowed me to get on with my Rag Rescue and Feltissimo business (Now called RR & F Textiles).
However just for once I wanted to prove to myself that I could still cook and I did achieve my aim. I produced all home baked food, a three course banquet for three days for over 20 people at our house. It was wonderful but I was exhausted afterwards.
Then we went on a well deserved holiday, but whilst there I started working embroidering every evening and have continued since.
Yesterday I started putting some handmade nuno felt brooches into my etsy shop, perhaps you would like to have a look. they are great for presents, birthday, Christmas etc and can be worn, placed on bags, used like patches on pockets etc.
Here is a quick look at the ones I put on yesterday. If you would like to see and read more details then please click the link at the top of this post.
I post worldwide and take on commissions.

The new felted FLORENCE COLLECTION of miniature wall hangings

I've been wanting to make a collection of felted items for a while now. I love drawing faces and attaching them to handmade felt. I then sit and stare at them for a while and see how the colours and textures inspire me.

Welcome to the Florence collection.
A lady who changes her form, dress and situation every time I create a piece of felt.
There are nine miniature wall hangings in this collection at the moment.

FLORENCE NO. 1

Now available in my etsy shop.

BUYING RECYCLED WOOLLENS AND FELTING

As you all know I'm into recycling in a big way, not only with the antiques and recycled fabrics at Rag Rescue but I also subscribe to 'Freecycle'. I'm always on the look out for items for the home and for myself. My latest acquisition was a Rohan sleeveless fleece pullover, which I bought in a charity shop for £1.50. It is in perfect condition, I don't think it has ever been worn. I wanted something to keep me wark whilst at the antique fairs. The trouble was it was a dark grey, not a colour I normally go for, but at that price I couldn't resist it. I got it home and out came my felting wools. I wasn't quite sure how I was going to go about felting it on the embellisher as I had never felted a made up item before.
Here it is, see what you think, I'm rather pleased with it.

I was a bit short of time as life is rather hectic at the moment but when I have more time I think I will felt the back as well and perhaps do some machine embroidery on it.

WORK IN PROGRESS

DEEP SEA MICRO-ORGANISMS
Needle felting on embellisher made felt. One part of a mobile I'm making for my garden, that is when I get it finished.

ARTS AND CRAFTS FOREST
Embellisher felt onto linen fabric with hand embroidery. I think I'll add some machine embroidery to this one at a later stage.

LINCOLNSHIRE ANTIQUES AND HOME SHOW ( nee SWINDERBY)
For years we have been exhibiting at the Arthur Swallow Fairs at Swinderby showground. The owners of the ground have decided to remove the underlying gravel on the site very shortly. For this reason the Swinderby Home and Antique show is moving to the Lincoln showground just up the road.
The IACF owners have decided to jump in and hold a fair on the old Swinderby site at the same time as the Arthur Swallow Lincoln fair.....!!!
Please do not be confused by this and think that it is the same organisation running it.

PLEASE SUPPORT THE LINCOLNSHIRE ANTIQUES AND HOME SHOW

RAG RESCUE WILL BE THERE

Christmas cards at the ready.

My apologies to all my blogger friends for not looking and commenting on your blogs these past few weeks. There has been a huge family crisis and I just couldn't get my head around anything. Hopefully the crisi will ease slightly next weekend and I will be going away to sell at my bi-monthly antique fairs. For details of the fairs see my
Rag Rescue blog

What has helped me release some of the tension in myself has been my felting. I decided to make my Christmas cards this year and above are some photographs of just a couple of them. I also made some patchwork ones and embroidered those.
It si the first time that I've made my own cards so I hope the family and friends will enjoy them.

Peace reigns in the house this weekend as my husband and I are on our own so I'm going to spend some time surfing through all your blogs.

Underwater wall hanging.

Underwater wall hanging.
Originally uploaded by Feltissimo
The weather forecast for Morecambe was bad this week so I decided to do some felting. As it happened the skies remained blue for most of the week but I did manage to complete two projects. This is the first, a lovely wall hanging for my grandaughter Molly's bedroom. I have used merino and wensleydale wool tops with silk carrier rods and neeps and an addition of Victorian glass beads and rods in blue and white for the danglers. For the first time I used some embroidery on my felt work, something which I think I will do more of.

If you click on the picture it will take you to my Flickr page where you will be able to see a close-up of this work.

Therapy on the cards

No. 1
Pleasant
turmoil

In a few weeks time this last six months of tearing the house down and building it up again, will seem like a dream. The builders couldn't believe how calm we have been throughout it all.
That's what they think!

No. 2 Emergence.

Emerging from the abyss.

A light at the end of the tunnel.

Happiness reigns.

Peace and quiet-----

Until tomorrow .....when the family arrive with all of their worldly goods
hmmm!

I keep telling Ludo, (the dog) enjoy today and tonight because the chaos starts again tomorrow, just in a different way. Daughter, husband and 17 month old Molly staying for a little while or possibly even longer. Still at least we are off to Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire for a week of fairs next week Escape.... I'm only joking as I'm really looking forward to the next couple of years, we will all just need a little time to adjust I suppose.
All tips gratefully received.

Cards for sale at my Feltissimo shop £5.00 each.

No excuse

Now I have no excuse to say that I've lost my keys. That's one less thing to worry about. It is amazing how many things have gone missing in our house since the start of the restoration last October. We are in a big mess again as we've been having the kitchen floor tiled. I must say though, the new tiles make a good background for photography.

I've spent the morning felting, it calms me down. I'm making a new bag using the technique of adding antique lace so it's new ground again, a huge learning curve, but that's what I like.

I made the felt rather thicker than I normally do when adding lace so it was much harder to get the fibres to come through. However the texture is reasonable
as it was a pretty lace you can still see most of the pattern. I shall use this for the fold over of the bag so I have now got to work out how to attach it to the main body. Another challenge, I think I'll sleep on it.

Another birthday card.

Another one of my creations. I made it yesterday on my 'me - mothers -day'. It is mostly wet felted but I did a little needle felting to place the various layers together.
I think mum will like this. As these cards are really art cards I will tell mum that I will frame the front for her as a little extra present.

My first bowl.

I made a small bowl the day before yesterday. I didn't really know what I was doing but the result was very pleasing. I'm not too sure when to block bowls but I did it after the rolling stage to make this one.
My new books arrived today - Felt without seams by Sheila Smith and Complete feltmaking by Gillian Harris. I've not had time to read them yet as I've been felt making all day today but will post a comment on them tomorrow. If anyone else has read these books perhaps you'd like to tell me your thoughts or tips.

A big thank you goes out to Ann and Una for welcoming me to the Felting and Needle Felting Forum, I know that I will learn many things from them all who subscribe to the forum and make new friends along the way.
